Binhe Road Greenery Corridor

Binhe Road Greenery Corridor

Lanzhou is a narrow valley stretching from east to west with the Yellow River running at the foot of Jiuzhou Mountain. Designed by Lanzhou Urban Construction Department, the ten kilometers (6 miles) long Binhe Road has been developed along the south bank of the Yellow River, along which various kinds of flower beds are dotted, and has been awarded as a greenery corridor by gardeners.

Highlighted Scenes along Binhe Road Greenery Corridor

Binhe Road boasts of being the longest riverside road in China, along which you can not only appreciate a series of delicate sculptures, such as Wild Geese in the Sandbank, Green Hope, Raft Passengers Wrestling the Billow, the Ancient Silk Road, the Yellow River Mother Sculpture and Journey into the West, but also you can visit Zhongshan Bridge, the White Pagoda Park and the Waterwheel Park on the way.

During the high season (from July to October), you can see the cow-skin rafts sailing in the Yellow River and, of course, you can experience them yourself. Lanzhou Binhe Road has become an ideal place for seniors to do morning exercises and for youths to date their lovers, and it's a must-see highlight during your Lanzhou trip.

Yellow River Mother Sculpture

Being 6 meters long (20 feet), 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) wide, 2.6 meters (8.5 feet) tall and over 40 tons in weight, the Yellow River Mother Sculpture is a granite-structured full relief of a mother and a baby boy, whose pedestal is decorated with patterns of ripples and fishes, and it symbolizes the Chinese people growing sturdily under the parenting of the Yellow River. Now the Yellow River Mother Sculpture has become a landmark of Lanzhou.

Green Hope

The sculpture group of Green Hope is composed of three white-marble conical trees of 11 meters (36 feet), 8 meters (26 feet) and 3 meters (10 feet) tall respectively, standing in the green land in picturesque disorder, and it symbolizes that forestry has advanced with exceptional speed in Lanzhou.

Centered with a sculpture of a camel, the granite-structured sculpture group of the Ancient Silk Road is located in the south section of Binhe Road. An elder riding on the camel wears a cloak and looks far into the distance, followed by a camel team.

Wild Geese in the Sandbank

The sculpture group of the Wild Geese in the Sandbank stands above an irregular shallow pond in the east section of Binhe Road, of which three steel-structured wild geese are ready to fly above the water, with five wild goose eggs dotted along the west bank of the pond. The sculpture group symbolizes the wild geese preferring to return to Lanzhou owing to its excellent ecological environment.

Raft Passengers Wrestling the Billow

The sculpture group of Raft Passengers Wrestling the Billow stands in a garden in the east section of Binhe Road, the pedestal of which is structured by reinforced concrete and is embedded with Yellow River pebbles, just like the rolling billows. The bronze-structured passenger is in a kneeling position and rows a cow-skin raft, followed by a young girl also in a kneeling position. The young girl is calm and serene, running her fingers through her hair. The sculpture group recreates the traditional mode of transportation in the Yellow River, fully showing the unique culture of Lanzhou.
