Macau Weather in September

Macau Weather in September

Weather: September is relatively comfortable compared to the hot summer months, but it isn't recommended as the best time to visit Macau. The period from the middle of fall through December has the best weather. The average September high temperature is 30 °C (86 °F) and the average low temperature is 24°C (77 °F).

Though there are big storms sometimes, Macau gets moderate rainfall in September. Most days are bright, warm or hot, and sunny. From those coming from dark cold northern latitudes, the sunny weather might be a real attraction of going to Macau in the fall. Check the weather before you go because flights may be cancelled and roads may be closed due to serious bad weather.

Clothing: Summer clothing such as T-shirts and shorts are enough for the weather. Sunglasses and hats might prove a relief from the bright sun. The sunlight glares off all the reflecting glass and pavement in the city.

Things to Do

The Mid-Autumn Festival: The annual holiday is the second biggest traditional Chinese festival. It usually falls in September, but occasionally the public holiday is in early October. If you are there at this time, you can join the festivities in the shopping streets and city parks.

It is a full moon festival and a harvest festival. Moon cakes featuring the fruits and nuts of the season are the favorite festival food. A highlight in the city of Macau is the annual fireworks display. It is a grand spectacle.

Another highlight is the lanterns. The festival is also called the Lantern Festival. In Macau, the traditional spots for lighting lanterns are the Praia Grande, Black Sand Beach and Cheoc-Van Beach. People will leave their lanterns floating on the water and watch them float away.

Go to the Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Fest: Hong Kong is only an hour away by fast ferry, and it is an alternative place to see the festival highlights and enjoy the city's restaurants and shopping.

Peak Travel in a Generally Low travel Month

September is generally a low travel month. However, if the Mid-Autumn Fest falls in the month, then there is a great jump in the number of Chinese tourists on those days. There is also a jump in travel for the October 1st Chinese National Day holiday which means a week-long holiday for many people. For those days, book in advance since hotel rooms, flights and train tickets are difficult to reserve. Book your tour in advance if you plan to travel. On the other days, inexpensive flight tickets and hotel rooms are widely available.
