Is Reed Flute Cave Worth It?

Reed Flute Cave Being Illuminated by Colorful LightsReed Flute Cave Being Illuminated by Colorful Lights

Reed Flute Cave is more like a classic sightseeing experience, and you may have a better experience if you've never visited caves before.

Unlike most caves, which are normally formed by the weathering of rock, Reed Flute Cave is formed by the uplift of underground lakes and water erosion. The stalactites and stalagmites take millions of years to form, and their strange and various shapes are definitely worth a visit.

In addition, the cave is illuminated by colorful lights, creating a magical and charming view. Unlike most caves that are only illuminated by dim lights, the colorful lights effectively alleviate the monotony of admiring rocks and people's fear of deep caves, and increase the fun of visiting caves, which is perfect for families with children.

However, if you're looking for caves that are less touristy, Swallow Cave in Yangshuo may suit you more. It's an undeveloped karst cave that is only lit by your torch, offering a real sense of exploration and making it especially fun for active couples who want to enjoy an adventure together.

How to Get to Reed Flute Cave

You could grab a cab to the Reed Flute Cave Entrance Ticket Office(芦笛岩洞口售票处), plus a four-minute climb up the stairs to reach the cave, instead of the one at the foot of Reed Flute Cave, which takes 10 minutes longer walking.

For public transportation, take Bus No. 3 and get off at Ludiyan Station. Then you will need a 10-minute walk to the destination.

How Long to Spend in Reed Flute Cave

Reed Flute Cave

Typically, it would take an hour to fully appreciate the beauty of Reed Flute Cave.

Reed Flute Cave is about 240 meters long. Normally, you will travel along the U-shaped route without a detour, which makes the entire tour 500 meters. Since the road is narrow and a little slippery due to the water drips from the top of the cave, the entire tour may take longer when it is swarmed by visitors.

There is no time limit for the visit. As you proceed slowly, let your imagination fly to picture the rock formations in your mind and add extra fun. Some may look like giant carrots in the field, and some could be huge croissants covered with cream. Feel free to soak in your favorite places and stay as long as you want before it closes.

How to Include Reed Flute Cave In a Guilin Trip?

It is easy to include Reed Flute Cave in your plan because it can be well connected with other attractions, such as Elephant Trunk Hill and Daxu Ancient Town.

Since the cave stays cool in summer, you could visit outdoor attractions during the pleasant morning hours, then avoid the midday heat by marveling at the strange stalactites and stalagmites in Reed Flute Cave, where you can enjoy natural air-conditioning.

Since the peak crowd usually arrives around 2 pm, you can arrive around noon to avoid the crowds, and stop at nearby Lujia Village (鲁家村) for a simple lunch like Guilin rice noodles and the famous tofu pudding, or simply take a break with a cup of coffee.
